I have been ill. For a WEEK. Over Halloween and All Saints/Souls Day.
Let me state for the record that Halloween is my FAVORITE holiday, although it's not really a holiday, of the year. We were going to have a party. I was going t get to wear a REAL kimono, and a REAL obi, which my grandmother would lend me, the cost of which I can't even imagine. She was planning to use it for a wall hanging.
Instead I was up all night hacking up green things which taste like fish eyeballs.
This year SUCKS.
Well, one good thing was that I got to catch up on my reading a bit. Got to read "The Thief Lord" by Cornelia Funke; great juvenile romp through the streets of Venice. Liked it a lot. It didn't really strike a chord with me though, seeing as it was written for kids. Also read Ann Rice's "Blood and Gold".
Read an article after she wrote "Memnoch" where she said that Lestat had sort of appeared to her, leaning against the hood of her car, and told her goodbye and she was on her own now. She sure writes like it. If it weren't for the yaoi, I'd have put it down halfway.
The yaoi was good though. ^_^ There was actually sex! Of course it was slightly cop-out sex, Marius being a vampire and all, and it was only vaguely described as that woman loves to do, but there was yaoi sex! Whee! And Armand was always my favorite, even though he was an idiot and a little religious brat.
However, the ending was stupid. Overall, another crappy book riding on the tail of what I like to think of as the real Vampire Chronicles.
My, aren't we bitchy? Sorry, peeps. Am quite upset about missing Halloween just after missing YaoiCon. ;_;
Oh, and another YOWIE! strip is up.
Andrael, thanks for keeping me company on Halloween. Am making you a chibi Icarus.

Presenting! My very own Yaoi comic strip! Geocities is off fucking itself again, so I used Ranchoweb instead. Am thinking of making this a weekly thing, just so I can give myself artistic deadlines. Am watching too much TV and not doing enough creative work lately.
Um, let's see...Jane-chan, how does one add a comments section anyway? I'm not sure people will feel all that motivated to e-mail me. Oh well, till then, you can go sign my guestbook, as the url says, and tell me how you liked YOWIE!...or not.
Totally unrelated: one of the entries in that guestbook is from a girl who thinks I'm a non-yaoi fan. Bit of a shock for her if she explored the page a bit more. been eating too much candy since 03:22 p.m..

And FINALLY...a REAL UPDATE!!!
Not one but FOUR new drawings! In Haya's miscellaneous section, a bunch of merpeople have moved in. Also put up a strange little boy-thing in the Sketches section. The last drawing I'm not posting until my friend sees it--it's a gift for her lovely vampire epic, The Nocturne.
Now for B&G. Hmm...what did I promise last time? God, I'm a lousy webmaster... been eating too much candy since 04:16 p.m..

And after about a week of no blogging at all...
OH MY GOD! I KNEW IT! I WAS BORN FOR THIS PAIRING, I TELL YOU!!!

your relationship is like:
Muraki/Tsuzuki
A bit one-sided, but don't let that stop you. Keep piling up those bodies to prove your love for him.
And before anyone asks, I did not take the test over and over until I got it right. This was the first try, and indeed the first time I even visited the site. In fact, I believe this is the kind of yaoi I write. Ask my friends.
*holds hand to head* Oh my God...my existence is affirmed...

It's Masskara season! Yaaaay! I'm thinking I should draw something for the occasion.
Um, okay, you don't know what Masskara season is, do you? Eheh...
It's like the New Orleans Mardi Gras, only scaled down and tamed to fit the esteemed inhabitants of Catholic Land. Oh, there's still lots of masks, dancing and racy costumes made almost entirely of sequins and feathers, but decent people don't do that kind of thing. However, it's perfectly okay for decent people to watch, and perhaps buy a crazy mask or two. For their kids, of course, or as an interesting wall decoration.
The festival lasts from October 1 to 20. I like it because it's a break from Catholic Land, hearkening back to the old days of harvest gods and thank-you festivals for them. Masskara is celebrated during the milling season, when all the sugarcane's harvested and shipped by truck to the mills. This is sugar's birthplace! No wonder I like it! =^^=
Foreigners come from lots of places for the festival: Germany, the States, Singapore...I don't even know how they heard of it. But for the foreigners who haven't heard of it, who are here for other reasons...well, it can be a bit shocking.
Yesterday I had a fun lesson, because my Japanese teacher let me pick Fruits Basket 1 as a training book. He seemed pretty nervous though. After the lesson, which was a great one on Japanese culture, he was asking what I thought was the major difference between Philippine celebrations and Japanese, seeing as the Masskara was coming up.
Me: random stuff on how Philippine festivals were more solemn and Catholic, and all the really good celebrations weren't religious at all, like Masskara etc. I don't consider Christmas a religious festival, and those bits of it that are, are also very solemn and Catholic.
Jun-sensei: So, about Masskara...do people...uh, dress up for it? Are you going to dress up for it?
Me: *huff* I wish. I think only the dancers are allowed to. I might make myself a mask though.
Jun-sensei: Are many people going to dress up? Because I saw a...*visibly more embarrassed* a costume...in a window...with feathers, and...*makes vague drawing gestures indicating a bikini the size of three band-aids*
Me: BWAHAHAHAHAHA--*belatedly remembers one is in the presence of a teacher and chokes it down* No, I wasn't talking about THAT kind of costume! Nobody's going to be wearing that, except maybe some of the dancers.
Jun-sensei: *deep sigh of relief* Good.
Poor Jun-sensei. If he feels that way I can imagine what Junko-san thinks. (Female teacher. Teaches the kids. No relation.) Heheh, I almost hope somebody will be wearing those things, just so I can ask him about it afterward. been eating too much candy since 01:06 p.m..

Ateneo beat La Salle for the first time in what, 14 years? Woo-hoo. How very Slam Dunk of them. Congratulations Blue Eagles, fly high, waka waka waka.
The only thing of remotely passing interest for me in the UAAP inter-college thing is that Sakuragi Hanamichi from Slam Dunk bears a marked resemblance to the Ateneo Blue Eagles' Enrico Villanueva, especially in this picture.
They're just as dumb as each other, too. I had a class with Enrico in third year. The class was Great Books III: Faulkner, Hemingway, Orientalism and other things beyond the grasp of the wholly sports-minded. I didn't know his name then so my friend and I called him DJ, or "Dumb Jock".
And he was. Unbelievably. I hear jocks are smarter nowadays, and in college they have to be, but Mr. Villanueva was an absolute moron. Judging from his recitation in class, I'm betting the only way he passed was that he either cheated on the test, or our spinster teacher was soft on him. She always gave him a second chance to answer.
I watched Queen of The Damned last night. Leigh, my inner masochist, wrote a rant about it. Go read it.

Franz, this is for you.
Um, don't show it to Enzo. You know how he gets. ^^;
In other news...Proving My Point That Macs Are Temperamental Artists
My iBook panics. No, I'm serious. It halts everything and scrolls a bunch of DOS text over the screen that says "Panic: *bunch of random stuff for about 8 lines* And it never stops waiting. It doesn't do anything else either, and you just have to restart it. And it takes an extra long time to restart, which is scary because my other computer's crashed during this same startup before. And when it's done it acts like nothing's happened.
Freaky. What makes it worse is that nobody on this whole damn island has a clue what to do with a Mac. Guess they can't deal with a computer that *can't* be taken apart, diddled with, and pirated within an inch of its life. And which has no parts Made In The Philippines, or at least Badly Ripped-Off In The Philippines.
In other other news...COTTON CANDY!!! I FOUND COTTON CANDY!!! Not the regular wimp-ass fluff that gets sticky too fast and disappears the minute it hits your tongue. Noooo, I mean REAL cotton candy. The local kind. The one spun from melted refined sugar and the kind of red food coloring that is rumored to cause urinary tract infection in laboratory animals. The one that is CRUNCHY.
They were selling for 5 pesos a pack, which is about 10 cents. Actually I strongly suspect they were selling for 2 pesos, because he said that at first and when I said "Really?! Two pesos?!" he went "uh, 5 pesos pala." I think it was because I stopped the CRV and waved around my pink leather wallet. ^^;
Anyway, I bought 4. And then he let me have one FREE!!! And it was the crunchiest!!! And I'm so HAPPY! Yes, I ate them all by MYSELF!!!

Oh, and before I forget...the last few eps of Saiyuki SUCKED!
Well, that's a bit harsh. But after weeks and weeks of fan service, the ending left me so disappointed. I'm going to whiten the spoilers now; you can highlight them if you want to read them. We never got to see Hakkai's demon form! The deaths of Shien and Zeon were so short and POINTLESS! (Although Shien is lovely with his hair down.) Even Homura's death was stupid, even though there was some effort on the series' part to make us understand that that was "what he wanted". Personally I wasn't convinced.
The entrance of the Kougaiji-gumi was really cool, especially with Gojyo's ghost. "Are you going to make me do it over again?" Waa, Doku-niichan kakko ii. But we're not going to see them all fight in the end! And none of the Sanzou-gumi even remembered their previous lives!
And travesty of travesties: NATAKU DIDN'T WAKE UP!!! AND just to rub it in our faces, they show us a full-on shot of the poor veggie boy! IT'S NOT FAIR!!! Okay, I'm done now. But I'm still pissed off.
Hey! Does the manga end that way? 'Cos if it doesn't I wanna buy it! Oh, Kaaaaaaaaaaatyaaaaaa...
And in other news, Andrael gave this blog a link on her blog! *nikoniko* Thank you! AND she agrees with me on the Saiyuki thing. So there. been eating too much candy since 02:16 p.m..

Remember that great doujinshi site called Ai No Kuusou? The one that some bitch shut down because she'd expected the Internet to do her parenting for her and it turned out to be just a medium, not a nanny? The yaoi world mourned its passing. So did I. But I may not have mourned as much as some, because I'd stored more than half the comics on that site away on disk.
Several months ago, in the process of converting my iBook to OS X, I ACCIDENTALLY DELETED THE WHOLE CACHE. It was the third stupidest thing I've ever done. (Don't ask what the others are; I'd rather not remember.)
Since then it's been like someone died. I went through a whole month of grief and self-loathing. Eventually I sort of got over it, but every once in a while the memory will hit me all over again and I'll writhe the rest of the day. The feeling's like a huge mouth that opened up in my diaphragm. It's usually closed, but sometimes it decides to open and suck in all my insides and chew them for a while. Today's a chewing day.
So what can I do about it? Build up a whole new collection, of course. XD This time I'll go look for some actual dj I can hold in my hands as well. Maybe I'll get over it for good. Maybe not.

It's gone. Technomancy is gone.
Their stuff is still there, of course, but their spirit is gone. All I can do now is reread things I've reread a thousand times. There's no more communication.
Of all the places on the net, I loved their site the most. They were women with so much to say. I loved reading their works, learning from them...
I am so sad I can't begin to think about it. been eating too much candy since 02:48 p.m..

Look! Amazing artist who can draw things like this! And this! And not to mentionthis!
I find that most of my favorite writers, online artists, etc. have this circle of friends who also write, draw wonderfully, etc., and then I spend several lovely days going through the friends' stuff, and the friends' friends' stuff, and sometimes this lasts for weeks or even months.
It's a small world after all. ^_^ been eating too much candy since 01:48 p.m..

Took this test. Apparently if I were a Card Captor Sakura character, I'd be...
...........
...........
...........
Touya. And everybody who thinks they know me falls of their chair as they read this.
Got a brand new graphic from Lashtal. That girl has my favorite layouts of anyone except Jane-chan and her troop of genius blogging friends armed with Dreamweaver. This layout features Subaru and Seishiro as a bishounenized Cardinal Richelieu and the Pope of Death, respectively. 0_o Probe not the depths of Mokona Apapa's twisted mind.
...No wonder she's my idol.
That reminds me: Jane-chan moved Wonderland! Go here.
In local news...A photographer in Bacolod invited national celebrities to join his sex cult. He SENT THEM PICTURES of himself actually having sex with minors. Two 15-year-old girls have filed charges against him. What are the police doing?
They're watching his place.
This proves everything I've privately thought about Philippine police. It's not that they're waiting for him to commit a crime so they can catch him. Come on, they have PICTURES! How much more evidence do you need? They're waiting for him to commit a crime so they can WATCH, and THEN arrest him. I've known certain authorities to arrive on the scene of a sex crime, watch the involved parties, and then catch them--while they're still naked, so they can get a good ogle at the poor girl, who comes out doubly victimized.
This is what the Philippines is like as a country. And people wonder why I want to get out.
Now for a bit of friendly plugging: my friends Bong, Jem and Ian, who form a very good band called Food Shelter & Clothing, have finally updated their website. Bong is the webmaster, and his combination of sarcasm, half-skewed English and dj slang makes a very funny mix. Also there are a few pictures of me. I look awful, so I won't say which one I am. My friends will know. been eating too much candy since 01:13 p.m..

I am a masochist. All yaoi lovers are probably, at some level, sado-masochist (the masochist running rather deeper than the sadist). But I think my little inner masochist runs all the way to the marrow. And having nothing to do in this little bit of nowhere among other little bits of nowhere in the Pacific Ocean, my masochist has gone extra vicious with ennui. And now he is holding a tiny scalpel to my prefrontal lobe and threatening to cut away my creative generator if I don't watch this Penelope Cruz visual vehicle, this girl-from-Ipanema movie, this Laura Esquivel knock-off called, to add the last blade under my fingernails, "Woman On Top".
Ugh. Just when it starts to get funny, it turns back into the wave under Penelope Cruz's surfboard. So why the hell am I watching it? Morbid fascination. And of course, that maniacally giggling self-mutilating bishounen in my head.
Omigod, I take it back. Okay, the movie's still dippy Laura-Esquivel-through-a-bad-filter Hollywood love crap. But the drag queen got a boyfriend!!! And that's never happened in any other movie I've watched, even the good ones. And that's enough for me.
Masochist: Damn. *pouts, starts to draw little stick figures on wrist with scalpel out of petulant boredom*
Seme-sadist: Well, that was useless. Come here, angst boy, let's play the pain game.
Masochist: Okay!
So everybody's happy. In a twisted way. Roll credits and zippy Brazilian music.
God, what am I talking about? Anyway, just reminding you guys that the new Sketches page is up on Haya. I separated the art into sketches and more polished works, and added a few new things. Also gave a page to A Cynic's Adventures In Catholic Land in the random section of Boys and Girls. Also on B&G: the long-overdue appearance of the Mix page, and Courtship chapter 4 in the Mitsui Shrine.
My Card Captor Sakura site seems quite lonely. I'd better work on it. I have a few new lyrics to put up and a new Sakura artbook than needs scanning.
Oh! AND, because hurt-me boy was so persistent, I created a space for him and his oversensible but nevertheless sadist seme to play. The place is called Sinkhole and I will also be sticking yaoi story ideas and fic snippets in it from time to time. Also watch for guest appearance of Jane-chan and friends.

@_@ Oooooo. Am totally high on Saiyuki-induced emotional tension. Long live Saiyuki flashbacks.
If I have just one wish for the ending of the series, it's this:
NATAKU, WAKE UP! NATAKU, WAKE UP! NATAKU, WAKE UP! You're my favorite character! Aside from Sanzo, of course.
New favorite song: another grey day in the big blue world - maaya sakamoto
Omigod! I just realized! I downloaded a pic ages ago from the Yaoi Shrine, and it's only now that I noticed--it's Opal and Onyx!!! Except that Onyx has two horns. Art by Sachiko Kumimura, the unsung genius behind the character design of Arislan Senki.
Hm. Then again, I don't think anybody reading this blog has read my Bride of Sword story. Oh well.
